Have you ever felt an indefinable sense of uneasiness, stuck in a cycle of negative emotions and recurring patterns? If so, you are not alone. Many struggle with past experiences or buried feelings that prevent them from reaching their full potential in life.
This is where Maieusthesia comes in: a unique therapeutic approach that does not seek to fight against these phenomena but to understand their relevance to allow for deep-seated remediation. It is standing at the crossroads of psychotherapy and holistic therapies.
Maieusthesia was developed by French psychotherapist Thierry Tournebise in the 1980s and is still relatively unknown to the English-speaking public. While more and more certified therapists are emerging in French-speaking countries, Maieusthesia, due to its French origin, remains very confidential in the United Kingdom and the United States. The main reason for this is the lack of English-speaking practitioners able to translate its key concepts.
This website was created to raise awareness of Maieusthesia and to allow the English-speaking public to benefit from the accuracy and relevance of this humanistic approach. We offer consultations and training sessions in English.
In Maieusthesia, the focus is on the individual above all else (then come emotions, feelings and lastly events). It prioritizes empathetic listening and validation of the pertinence of your internal processes. Instead of trying to fight or fix symptoms, Maieusthesia therapy acknowledges their significance and helps identify, understand, and reconcile the cleaved parts of your psyche.
It is not about reliving traumatic events but about acknowledging these parts of you who experienced these events, to achieve a greater completeness. The encounter with these disconnected parts allows for the resolution of internal cleavages that thus cease to be relevant and disappear.
By addressing the basics, Maieusthesia can often achieve lasting results more quickly than traditional approaches and is therefore considered a brief therapy.
Maieusthesia is a neologism formed from the Greek and Indo-European words "maieutikê" (the art of giving birth) and "aisthanesthai" (to feel, to perceive). Maieusthesia therefore refers to the sensitivity to the birth of the Self.
This sensitivity to this “emergence of the Self” is mainly developed in the psychotherapeutic interview through exploratory questioning that allows for the identification, encounter, and reintegration of parts of the psyche that have remained suspended outside of time and space.
Imagine a therapist that is both delicate and allows you to reconnect deeply with your inner self while at the same time guides you towards an understanding of your own functioning. They do not dictate the answers to you; they accompany you on a journey of introspection to reveal your relevance of your internal functioning and act as a facilitator: helping you to discover the meaning of your feelings or symptoms and to discover what is waiting to be seen in you. This communicative state of openness between the practitioner and the patient, based on trust and exchange, becomes a catalyst for your transformation. The therapist "pilots", but it is you and you alone who can give them the directions on the map.
If you are looking for a powerful therapeutic experience that unlocks your potential for lasting change, Maieusthesia could be the ideal solution. This engaging approach offers you a path to inner remediation, fulfillment and a more meaningful life. Although new to the English-speaking public, it is an established method, with a growing international presence. Feel free to make an appointment with us for personalized support.
